Double-wall tanks

Construction of double wall stainless steel tanks

Double wall tanks for leak detection Double wall tanks with insulation

Gpi constructs double wall tanks to customised design specifications. A double-walled tank is understood to be a tank which has an ‘extra’ tank built around it. A double wall may be required for the storage of hazardous fluids. The construction of a double wall does away with the need for a drip tray. Tanks provided with insulation material on the outside with an additional casing are likewise often referred to as double-walled tanks. We are highly experienced in the design and manufacture of different types of double-walled tanks, constructed exclusively from stainless steel or another high-quality alloy.

Experienced constructor of double wall tanks

We have more than 25 years’ experience in the design and construction of double-walled tanks. We have produced a large number of tanks for a wide range of customers in industries as diverse as (petro-)chemicals and dairy. We are fully familiar with the processes and products with their associated quality and finishing.

Do you have any questions about our stainless steel double wall tanks?

High-quality double-walled tanks

For the above-ground storage of hazardous fluids and substances which threaten the soil, storage tanks must either be provided with a drip tray or designed with a double casing and equipped with a leak detection system.

The requirements of a tank are determined in part by the type of permit you request from the municipality, province or other authority charged with issuing these. On the basis of this, a tank will have to meet specific standards and be approved, for example, in compliance with Dutch Kiwa guidelines.

We provide advice and support to ensure that storage of your products meets all the necessary guidelines for hygiene, safety, sustainability and convenience.

We construct double-walled tanks in line with all relevant standards, including:

  • Kiwa BRL-K756/03 (Netherlands)
  • Kiwa BRL-K796/02 (Netherlands)
  • NEN-EN 12285-2 (Netherlands)
  • Vlarem (Belgium)
  • DIN 6618-2 (Germany)
  • UDT (Poland)

Double wall tanks with leak detection

A leak detection system can be incorporated into a double-walled tank. In this case, the tank does not have to be equipped with a drip tray.

Electronic leak detection

A light or audio signal can be used to indicate whether there is a leak in the inner tank wall. Its functioning must be regularly inspected by a BRL K903-certified company every year.

Leak detection pot system

Use of a fluid in the partition will indicate whether there is a leak in the inner wall of the tank. Depending on the variant chosen, the fluid level will fall or the colour of the fluid will change. You can check the pot with fluid every month yourself.

Insulation in double-walled tanks

Need to provide your tank with (thermal) insulation? For example, heating and chilling are essential for processes such as pasteurisation or fermentation. This can be achieved using mineral wool and PIR and PUR insulation material. Depending on the specific application, our experts can give you advice on the best insulation for your tank. We always fabricate the tank itself from stainless steel and the insulation material is normally clad in a casing of aluminium wall panels.

Stainless steel: double-walled tanks in stainless steel

We always produce double-walled tanks in stainless steel. Different types of stainless steel are available, 304(L) and 316(L) being the most widely used. Other high-quality alloys, such as duplex stainless steel, can also be used. Due to its corrosion resistance, stainless steel has a long lifespan and requires little maintenance.

Where do we build double-walled tanks?

We have production sites in Lopik and Groot-Ammers. If transportation can be used, we construct double-walled tanks at one of these two locations. Larger tanks can be shipped directly from Groot-Ammers. If no (easy means of) transportation is possible, tanks can also be built on location.
