Two 900 m³ fish oil storage tanks for Norwegian fish oil company
Gpi Tanks has supplied two 900 m³ stainless steel fish oil storage tanks to a fish oil producer in Norway. Manufactured from SS316L / 1.4404 stainless steel, the tanks are used for the storage of fish oil. The full scope of supply included a platform, a cage ladder, a stair and full water testing ahead of transport. Both tanks have now been transported to Norway and installed on site.
Fish oil storage tanks in this project
For this project, each fish oil storage tank was built from SS316L / 1.4404 stainless steel, a grade widely used for storage vessels that need to resist corrosion and remain hygienic over long service lives. Its molybdenum content gives it added resistance compared with standard stainless steel grades, which is why it is a common choice for tanks holding oils and other sensitive liquids within the wider oil industry. With a capacity of 900 m³ each, the two tanks give the customer substantial storage volume for fish oil.
Scope of supply
Alongside the tanks themselves, the scope of supply included a platform of approximately 1,500 mm, a cage ladder of approximately 11,500 mm and a stair of approximately 4,500 mm, giving safe and practical access to the tanks once installed. Before transport, Gpi Tanks carried out a full water test on each tank, filling it with water to check the structural integrity and leak tightness of the vessel under load. This kind of testing is a standard step for large storage tanks, allowing any issues to be identified and resolved before the tanks leave the production facility.
Transport and installation
Once testing was complete, Gpi Tanks arranged transporting large stainless steel tanks to Norway. On arrival, the tanks were installed on site, along with the platform, cage ladder and stair that make up the rest of the scope of supply. Handling the project from production through to transport and installation gave the customer a single point of contact throughout.
