Multi chamber milk storage tanks for German dairy producer
Multi chamber milk storage tanks are becoming an increasingly practical choice for large dairy sites that need extra storage capacity without adding more vessels to the production floor. Gpi has now completed seven of these tanks for one of Europe’s largest dairy production sites in Germany. Each tank combines a 135 m³ lower chamber with a 100 m³ upper chamber, giving the customer flexible, high volume storage capacity within a single vessel. The project was carried out jointly by two Gpi production facilities, and all seven tanks have now been transported to the customer’s site in Germany.
Multi chamber milk storage tanks in this project
For this dairy producer, choosing multi chamber milk storage tanks meant combining two storage volumes into a single stainless steel multi chamber tank instead of installing two separate vessels, an important consideration at an already established dairy production site where floor space is limited. Each tank’s 135 m³ lower chamber and 100 m³ upper chamber can be filled, emptied and cleaned independently, giving the customer flexibility to manage different product batches or process stages for milk storage within the same footprint. It is also part of why the project could be divided across two Gpi production facilities: the same design and hygiene requirements apply regardless of which site manufactures the tank, so additional capacity could be added without compromising on specification.
Two facilities deliver one seamless project
The seven tanks were divided across two Gpi locations: three were engineered and manufactured in Lopik, and four at Gpi Schwarte. Dividing the work this way made it possible to take on a project of this scale while keeping delivery on schedule, with the two facilities producing in parallel rather than in sequence. Bringing together specialists from both sites also means shared expertise in hygienic tank design, helping ensure that all seven tanks meet the same specification regardless of where they were built.
At Gpi, engineering, production and installation are handled in-house, from the initial design through to on-site execution. This project reflects how Gpi works across the wider Gpi Group.
Transport, installation and next steps
Alongside the tanks, the Lopik scope includes six platforms, five of 1,700 mm and one of 12,000 mm, which will be installed together with the tanks on site. New agitators have also been added to the scope as additional work, and Gpi will install these as well, preferably before the tanks are transported wherever that is feasible.
All seven tanks have now been produced, with the four tanks from Gpi Schwarte already transported to Germany and the three tanks from Lopik now transported as well. Once all seven tanks are on site, Gpi will carry out the installation of the tanks, platforms and agitators, completing this joint effort between two Gpi production facilities for one of Europe’s largest dairy producers.
